I do tend to simplify here. Our son does know about waiting for things, and has shown that he can exercise patience. Other circumstances had come into play on this occasion, and I still believe that I made the right decision. We could have made him wait, and I can appreciate the point of view which says that we should have.
I don't think that Hannah was made to feel less special. It was the day after her birthday when her brother received his console. She would have been happy to share, so in a way she also benefited from his perhaps unmerited good fortune ...
