The best-laid plans ...

As every Burns scholar knows ... gang aft agley. A tummy bug hit me over the week-end, to the extent that on Sunday I stayed at home while the rest of the family attended church and went on to have lunch with friends. It was arranged that transport for to-day's trip to the hospital would be provided by our friend, in case I wasn't well enough to do duty. In the event, here I am at work, and could probably have managed, but I welcome the break from a challenging routine.

I was just finishing my lunch, when the mobile phone rang. It was daughter's school, to tell me that daughter had a sore tummy. So I set off to pick her up, only to arrive just as wife and son were walking past the school on their way home. Maybe it was an unnecessary journey, but I still feel that it is important to respond positively to these cries for help, whenever possible. Spring may have finally arrived, allowing me to wind down the windows for much of the run.

During my absence, they had a power cut here, so it's been an eventful Monday.
