A wedding

Yesterday, we attended a wedding. The whole family were in church for the ceremony; wife and I were at the evening reception. It was a marvellous, affirmative event. The bride celebrated the same day her fiftieth birthday. Without decrying young love, I feel that there is something special when a couple who have been through much already have the faith to make a go of it. And the reception was enriched by the quality of the lives already lived by these two people.

Church this morning was a kind of celebration for us, as we told people that daughter has finished her treatment. Speaking personally, I reckon that this is, at best, to quote Winston Churchill, the end of the beginning, but it is a waypoint to have been reached with rejoicing. There is a hill in the west of Scotland called the Rest and be Thankful, mainly on account of its steep ascent. The terrain beyond remains difficult, but we can be glad that what is behind is behind.
