Victoria Day

Generously, my employer gives us two days' holiday this week, possibly to enable us to attend some sessions of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Daughter wasn't feeling too great this morning, so instead of going to school (as she would normally have done), she stayed at home. She was well enough this afternoon to go to ballet, so we're hoping that she'll be fine for school to-morrow morning. Somerfield, where we shopped this afternoon to validate our parking in their customer car park, which happens to be adjacent to the dance studio, were running a promotion which included a garden bench and a tent, both of which we bought, and then struggled to pack into the car to take home.

Despite a stiff breeze blowing, we managed to erect the tent, which was fun. I'm amazed at the different perspective it gives to be in a simple tent in the back garden, sheltered to some extent from the elements, but without the normal comforts of home. I wonder if the ancient Feast of Tabernacles was intended to give people just this occasional reminder, that there is more to life than TV (and, of course, the computer).
