I was sad to miss hearing the BBC SSO (and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus), but I do get another chance when the concert is broadcast on Radio 3 on Sep 19. And I 'enjoyed' (if that's the right word) listening to Bernard Haitink conduct a performance of Anton Bruckner's Seventh Symphony. The slow movement helped me to give some kind of expression to my feelings of grief and despair on hearing about the terrible events in Beslan.
And now, as Sir Simon Rattle urges on the Berlin Philharmonic in Beethoven's Ninth, I poise between the week-end and the week ahead. A certain amount of tidying up has taken place this week-end - surely a good thing.
