A harsh answer

I took Thursday afternoon off work, because son was having the operation to straighten his thumb, and wife was with him, while I was to collect daughter from school, and then daughter and I would head for the hospital to bring wife and son home. Between having lunch and picking up daughter, I took an ice cream maker back to the shop (because it seemed to be leaking sticky fluid), and tried to buy a Radio Times. I walked through the door of the shop, headed straight for the magazines, and then to the checkout, where I waited patiently behind a lady who was paying for her groceries. "Are you in the queue?" asked the checkout lady, sharply. I thought that I was, but it turned out that 'the queue' began about 5 metres from the checkout. I was hurt, and humiliated. I answered simply, "It's not worth it," put the Radio Times back on the shelf, and walked out of the shop.

Happily, son's thumb seems to be healing. A nurse visited yesterday to change the dressing. Yesterday afternoon, we carried out a swift shopping raid into the big city, by train from the park-and-ride. Our target was the Guide shop, where we purchased a Brownie uniform for daughter. A detour (by car) to the Marks and Spencer foodstore in an edge-of-town shopping area completed the trip.

Daughter and I were in church this morning. Son isn't keen, so wife stayed at home to look after him. The sermon series just now is following the Songs of Ascents. Last week's message was reiterated - trust in God.
