Why don't I argue?

To-day, our rector spoke to me after the service, asking me to convey to daughter the not particularly welcome news that the church does not consider it appropriate to offer wine to children at communion. As instructed, I spoke with daughter when we got home, reckoning that we had to choose one of three responses - simply accept that this is the will of the church; accept, but ask for it to be discussed at an appropriate level; leave this church, and find one which includes children. We've agreed on the middle course, which, of course, puts the onus back on me.

Surely the church is willing to be transparent on this? Perhaps they can take time out from arguing whether what people do in bed together matters when they want to become bishops, and decide at what precise age a child is old enough to be offered the blood of Christ.

Our rector is kind enough. He asked me how we were, and when I said 'tired', he said 'of course'. Difficult to continue the sentence without giving away our surname, but you can probably work it out. We're always tired.
