A day of two halves

Son is poorly - temperature, headache, etc - wife works mornings - I work full-time - normally son attends nursery - but, in case of son not being well enough to go to nursery, wife and I have to take turns to be at home with him. A couple of weeks ago, at my work, we had a dramatic team meeting, the upshot of which was that, instead of, as we previously did, each of us doing two separate half-days on the helpdesk a week, we should each spend a full day on the desk - taking time out for lunch, of course - we work in pairs - in fact, it was finding a way to cover the lunch period which resulted in this innovation. Under the old regime, I didn't do mornings - to allow maximum flexibility if son should require someone to be at home with him - so it was expected that, so as not to create problems for the rest of the team - if I am down for duty, then it wouldn't be me that stayed at home.

I am on duty to-morrow, so to-day I spent the morning with son. He wasn't being particularly demanding - since he wasn't feeling well - which was the reason why we were at home - so I had some time to devote to thinking about broadband - sort of thinking that this month we should take the plunge (as it were). But then I find that somebody else is considering going back to dial-up.

Enough.
