... heard of a train being cancelled, and then un-cancelled? Well, it happened to-day. A GNER train arrived at Edinburgh Waverley about 20 mintues late, where we boarded it, bound for Dundee. We then learned that there would be a 'short' delay while one of the power cars was changed. Then, at 11:05, the on-train announcer told us that they didn't know when we would be leaving Edinburgh, and that there was a ScotRail service leaving for Aberdeen at 11:10. We weren't sure that we could organise our belongings, get off the GNER train, across the station, and on to the ScotRail train within 5 minutes, so we stayed put. Then, at, I guess, about 11:35, we were told that the GNER service had been cancelled, and that we were welcome to transfer to the ScotRail service leaving at 12:10. There was a burst of ironic (I guess) applause.
Then, at 12:05, seated in the ScotRail train, we heard another announcement, to the effect that the GNER service had been reinstated, and that we were welcome to transfer back, where there would be (not surprisingly) plenty of seats. Again, we elected to stay where we were. To add insult to injury, the GNER train actually departed before ours, and son wasn't happy that he'd missed an opportunity to travel in a kind of train he thought he'd never travelled in before (he saw it go).
But it was a successful day - a true 'family funday' ...
