For my sins, I am now a member of the management committee for the after school club which daughter attends. They had planned a fundraising disco for this week-end, but because of insufficient numbers, it has had to be cancelled. Wife and I had bought tickets, and arranged for my mother to stay the week-end with us, to babysit.
I have mixed feelings. Unfortunately, whether because of my genes, or for some other reason, I simply do not enjoy discos (or dinner dances, or ceilidhs). My wife does, and so that she can enjoy a night out with her husband, I do go to a few. So part of me is disappointed, but part of me is relieved. Of course, if granny is still coming, we can do something that evening - maybe a meal out somewhere.
