Or, to make the point, Campaigning instead of Charity. For me, it was a somewhat strange experience, following the lead of charities which I support, making the transition from helping people and communities by proxy to campaigning on their behalf, having to trust organisations, such as Christian Aid, telling me that this is the best thing to be doing. At one point on the walk, I thought about the huge number of man-hours being expended, and whether doing something directly constructive might have been better.
But I understand that, unless you create for people an environment in which they can flourish, aid, whether supplied by charities or governments, is not the answer. And when you add also that the rich countries are trying to bend the rules to benefit themselves, then it is necessary that ordinary people demonstrate that they are unhappy (in a positive way, hoping for change).
