Thank you, Tractor Girl, for your comment. Indeed, we have on occasion argued that the best way (perhaps the only effective way) to oppose terrorism is to go out and do good - to demonstrate to the people who might otherwise turn to violence that we are not the demons they think we are. Of course, we do not only do good in order to avert terrorism - we do it because it is the right thing to do, and because God has commanded us.
The possibility of terrorist action in Edinburgh, especially with so many people in one place, was a consideration when thinking about attending the M(P)H rally. Mercifully, it didn't happen. My one moment of fear happened when I was making my way to the meeting point, and a group of black-clad young men were forcing their way through the crowd. At that point I was glad that the police were about.
But now the terrorists have struck. Theory has become actual. And we have to find a way forward. That encompasses the feelings of those whose lives have changed for ever. And takes us toward a world where there is no more terror. Maybe not achievable this side of eternity.
