H is for Hope

I am frequently reminded of the difference between what the Christian understands by hope, and how someone who does not believe in God would understand it. To the person who is unaware of spiritual matters, hope is really just a kind of optimism. We 'hope' that something will happen, meaning that it would be nice if it did, but we're not counting on it. I think that it was in reading CS Lewis that I learnt that Christian hope is something else, that it is grounded in God's promise, and that it concerns something that will come about, not just might.

So, we hope that M(P)H makes a difference. Can we be sure that it will? I don't know. I suppose that I tend to rely on what other people think - so if the Christians in Christian Aid, and Tearfund, and World Vision (not continuing the list, because it's a long one, but you know what I mean) believe that being involved in this campaign is the right thing to do, then it doesn't do any harm to hope and pray for a positive outcome.
