... yet another Stephen Fischbacher concert. Wife enjoyed it. Daughter wanted to be in the front row, so we arrived somewhat early, then found that it was sold out. I wasn't party to the negotiations, but I gather that it was suggested that we should wait until all (or most) of the ticketholders had arrived, and then we might be allowed in, but wife pleaded that daughter being partially sighted wouldn't be able to see from the back. So we paid our entrance fee, and were probably the first to be seated.

I think that it wasn't really meant to be a public concert, but was the culmination of a Fischy Music day in the local primary school. This is now Stephen's bread-and-butter, to spend a day in a school, enthusing children and teachers about how music can help them to communicate and recognise emotions. Very much the educational philosophy which is nowadays popular - rightly so. In fact, recently each of the schools attended by daughter and son played host to the Fischy Music experience.

I was impressed, particularly with the way that the emotional temperature of the evening was handled, with a serious song reflecting (without being too specific) on the events surrounding Jesus' crucifixion blending in with more upbeat numbers.

Interestingly, I see from the Fischy Music website that Stephen's next CD will include songs based on Stewart Henderson lyrics, making a connection with another contemporary singer/songwriter. I would say that Martyn Joseph's target audience might generally consist of people older than those for whom Stephen's songs are intended, but there are nevertheless broad similarities. I wonder which of Stewart Henderson's poems will receive the Fischy Music treatment ...
