A somewhat frustrating day

Going round in circles, you might say ...

My brother in Dundee is about to acquire broadband. For all sorts of complicated reasons, I am handling the administration of the upgrade. He was to receive a free modem by post, which would arrive the day before the line was activated.

Initially, I arranged for the modem to arrive at my mother's house, until I realised that there could be a problem if the newly active line and the equipment required to make use of it could be in different cities when the time came for them to be brought together (it was only once the order was complete that I was informed that the modem would be despatched just in time - in my innocence I had thought that they would send out the modem when they received the order). So I rearranged the delivery address to be my brother's flat.

I observed this morning, via the web page provided for the tracking of the modem order, that the modem had not been despatched. I emailed the company responsible, and as of 4 o'clock this afternoon, had received no reply. So I phoned them. They said - right enough, it hasn't been despatched, and the post goes at 4 o'clock, so it won't be despatched to-day, but it will be sent out to-morrow. Not great news, because the line is to be activated to-morrow.

Phoned my mum (it's generally difficult to raise my brother on the phone). Decided that it's inconvenient, but not the end of the world. Then granny (my mum) phones back to say that she's spoken to my brother, and that the kit has arrived.
