Grandma, and Wee Bruv (that is, Wife's mother, and my brother) appeared this afternoon. We gave them a cup of tea (each); wife found some clothes which she gave to Wee Bruv (he and I are of similar size). And they've set off for Fort Kinnaird, where Grandma intends to buy a mobile (phone).
Yesterday, my desklamp exploded, taking with it the computer, the phone, the television, the radio, and sundry other appliances. Resetting the switch (whatever they call it) restored power to the appliances, which seem none the worse, but I guessed that the 35 year old desklamp might need to be replaced. Happily, I was able to buy a fitting (in our local hardware shop) which is intended to make a bottle into a lamp, but which, more or less, does duty as the electrical part of the lamp. It looks just a little strange, and the flex is just a wee bit short, but it'll do. So an Anglepoise (of considerable sentimental value) lives on.
