Coincidences

Apologies for the unoriginal wibpost title (Pants got there first), but this one is pretty scary (for me, anyway). I am on the Martyn Joseph emailing list, and learnt this evening that he and Stewart Henderson are to appear together in Gorebridge Parish Church on 4th March. Well, I used to live in Gorebridge. And for a while, I wanted to ask out the daughter of the then minister, and spent ages by the phone, willing myself to pick up the phone and dial the number. Which, of course, is the manse phone number. And the number to dial if you want tickets is, not entirely surprisingly, the manse phone number. It felt pretty strange, I can tell you. No answer, as it happens - I guess that they have an evening service.

It isn't entirely a coincidence. I encountered Stewart Henderson before I heard of Martyn Joseph. They did a gig together in Edinburgh, once. And I met Stewart Henderson at the Carberry Festival earlier that summer. And the minister of Gorebridge Parish Church (the present minister, whom I've just tried to phone, not the previous minister, whose daughter I never got around to phoning) was also at that Carberry Festival. And, as it happens, his father used to be the manager of the team I work for (before my time). So it does all kind-of tie together.

And then, the only reason why we were at the Carberry Festival that year was because our daughter was receiving chemotherapy, which meant that we had to find a place to spend our summer holiday from which, if we had to, we could drive to the Sick Kids in Edinburgh in under an hour.

After all that, I hope I get a ticket.
