Two stories in to-day's Metro caught my attention.
To-day is the 10th anniversary of the Dunblane massacre. One man walked into a school, and gunned down 15 children and their teacher.
And yesterday, to save the life of one boy, a helicopter took off from HMS Gannet, landed on the Meadows (in Edinburgh) to pick up a medical team, and flew on to Aberdeen, where another helicopter was waiting, to fly the team to Tingwall in Shetland. There, the boy would be collected, and flown to RAF Kinloss, where he would be transferred to a fixed-wing aircraft which would take him to Edinburgh.
I can't really say succinctly why these two stories contrast - one man's murderous intent, on the one hand - and teams of professionals working together to save a life, on the other. Humanity at its worst, and at its best, I suppose.
