Emerging Hermit describes a church at a crossroads. I'm excited, and challenged by his reference to a congregation which has seriously tried to integrate children into its life (being somewhat despondent just now about the lack of joined-up thinking in our own church). And how does God make his wishes known?
Last week I found myself helping with Kidz Klub, doing the story of Samuel being spoken to by God when he was a boy, and the leader asked us "how does God talk to us to-day?" I seriously thought about answering, "if we look up at the sky, we might see the clouds forming themselves into letters," but I wasn't sure if it would be appreciated. I grapple with the question as an individual; I despair when it comes to a group of people. But I hope and pray that Emerging Hermit's church, with a significant shared history, will as a group come to know the will of God (sounds terribly old-fashioned, doesn't it?) for them.
