This morning we climbed a hill called Gummers Howe, affording a magnificent view of Lake Windermere and beyond. This afternoon we walked from the hotel into Grange - a different style altogether, mostly flat. Grange is odd - years ago it was a seaside resort, with a beach, but something happened, and nowadays the seafront is an expanse of grassy mudflats - with danger signs everywhere. It was a pleasant walk nevertheless. For the return trip we cheated, and took the train.
