Fun Day Out 2006

The weather, thankfully, held. Also, thankfully, all of the siblings who wanted to got a ride.

Ninety-nine Porsches, about sixty (I believe) families, some phenomenal organisation, and the always special location of Carberry Tower. I took some photographs (of course), most of which have yet to be uploaded (being somewhat cautious about publishing photos - we were reminded of the need to be sensitive about pictures of children - also, I guess, needing to be careful with pictures of expensive cars).

Generally a good time had by all (this time neither Beloved nor I got a ride). I suppose that it was particularly interesting to meet a family whose circumstances matched our own (in a number of respects). The mother has neurofibromatosis type 1, and her daughter has received both chemotherapy and radiotherapy to treat an optic nerve glioma. The daughter is somewhat older than Celebrity, but probably had her treatement at about the same age (optic nerve gliomas affecting children with neurofibromatosis type 1 generally happen at a certain age).I suppose that for most of the families attending this event there were moments when the music (metaphorically - the actual music was pretty well continuous and loud) sounded a discordant note, reminding them that we were having this special experience because also something bad is happening to us. The day could have been a symphony mostly in the major, but with moments of minor key disturbance.

And Gardener feels unfairly treated because, at these events, inevitably, Celebrity remains the focus of attention.
