Warmth and clarity have returned. But I'm tired. My dear wife has decided that the lawn needs to be mown at least once a week. Until this spring, we had a petrol-driven Flymo, which clearly could only be operated by myself. Sadly, that mower was pronounced beyond repair, and has been replaced by an electric one which my wife can manage (though I don't think that she can get it into and out of the shed). So she can say that she could do the mowing. I found, with the Flymo, that it made sense to cut the grass about once every three weeks. I know that the gardening books say once a week, but I contend that gardening books tend to be written by people who are passionate about gardening. I'm not a loafer, but I do feel that there are other things to be done as well. And I honestly believe that our lawn did better when it wasn't cut too often. The grass had a chance to grow, and nourish itself, not be clipped to within a millimetre of its life.

So I'm not happy. We have quite a lot of grass - it isn't the sort of job you can just do in an hour. I really don't want my wife to get involved in cutting the grass. I don't think that she cares about the health of the grass; she just wants it short.

I know - it all sounds trivial - why get so upset? I suppose that it's because I'm tired. I wish I had more time.
