A happy discovery

I seem to be doing well when it comes to finding good places to stop reading my various books before I go on holiday. But, this morning, I didn't want to start a new chapter (of Jeffrey Sachs' The End of Poverty), and was rooting about for something lighter to read, and found 20th-Century Scottish Poems Selected by Douglas Dunn. I was instantly hooked by a poem called Slugabed, by Sydney Goodsir Smith. There is a ranting quality about some Scottish poetry, which is tremendously rousing.

In past years my party piece (on holiday) has generally been to recite a poem - I may find one in this little book (though I may have to be careful to find one that doesn't offend our Methodist co-holidaymakers).
