I can only assume that the rest of the country has been dry - so much rain has fallen here.
This morning, my son and I joined a small group of dedicated train spotters, eager to watch a steam hauled excursion coming through Kents Bank station. We had to wait rather longer than we'd anticipated (in the pouring rain), but were ultimately rewarded with a good view of what the brochure calls the Fellsman, but which proclaimed itself to be the Dalesman, steaming past. We're some way from the Dales; I can only guess that there really was a Dalesman, and that our train was bearing a real placard - a kind of authenticity ...
