I think that I understand better people's expectations, and how they can be met; I am still wondering whether the overall work situation requires radical change, or perseverance, hoping that as I chip away at current problems things will improve.
A meeting at lunchtime, which was, sadly, disappointing; just about every IT person in the university was there, hoping, I think, that the forum being proposed might address some of the issues dear to our hearts, such as enabling career development for people working in diverse situations, but it seemed, initially at least, that these matters have been declared out of bounds - the powers that be, it appears, would prefer that this forum concentrate on technical matters. Early days, but not an auspicious start.
