There are boys shouting on the path which leads past our garden. Wife said to me (while I was having my bath) that she thought they were damaging our fence. But her friends say that there is no point calling the police.
Somebody wrote an article on bullying (a commentary on the recent kerfuffle on Big Brother - which I don't watch, so really can't (fortunately) comment on); they criticised somebody in the house for 'not standing up to the bullies'. This takes me back to my schooldays - a teacher who said that if we were bullied we should punch the bullies - and, by the way, if he caught us fighting, he'd give us the belt (a form of corporal punishment popular in Scotland when I was young). It's incredibly easy for someone who isn't involved to say 'stand up to the bullies' - I would say that in almost every case it makes far more sense to try to stay out of their way.
