Wife spotted, in our local paper (the excellent East Lothian Courier), that Gosford House, whose extensive grounds we often drive past, was having an open day. Persuaded son, with difficulty, that, it being Mother's Day, we should be doing something which his mother would enjoy.

Interesting (for the wife and me), and quite poignant, since these treasures are normally hidden from the likes of us; and we benefited from lovely weather. Highlight, for me, was a cream scone in the improvised dining area, surrounded by paintings, facing an enormous shooting trophy, as the sunlight streamed through the west facing windows (probably not terribly good for the paintings).
