My bible reading notes (New dayLight, BRF) are doing a series using the King James version (in view of a significant anniversary). I'm not one of those who hold that the KJV is the only inspired version of the bible, but I have enjoyed the resonant phrases (for example, 'he is thy life, and the length of thy days', from somewhere in Deuteronomy). I'm reminded of the minister of the church we went to when I was a child. He argued that the new translations were, in some places, anyway, inferior - that 'God so loved the world' couldn't be replaced with 'God loved the world so much', because 'so loved the world' denoted not just quantity but also quality - he loved the world in such a way ...
