OK, I'm breaking a rule

Specifically, don't blog when you're drunk. And, yes, it is a bit early in the day to be drunk - in fact, technically, I'm probably not drunk, just the combination of tiredness, and having drunk half a bottle of wine ...

The holiday was good. Possibly harder work than ideally - I can't remember a holiday that was also a rest, which theoretically it is supposed to be - otherwise, when, pray, do I rest? But it was good. Port Ban is an incredible place. The people who own it are Christians, and it feels like a Christian community - people are incredibly friendly. That said, the significant meetings generally took place through our children - they seem to be able to make friends in a way that we adults can't.

I've been back at work for a week. I can blame the fact that I haven't achieved much on the other fact that the windows in my office were being replaced. I've been hot-desking - frequently on a tablet PC that is considerably past its use-by. I've had my first session with the counsellor, and am encouraged.

Our children go back to school on Tuesday. At this time of year I always think of Jeremiah 8:20 (honestly! Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in "Dona Nobis Pacem", which I once rehearsed, and it's stuck in my mind ever since):

The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. (King James)

Of course, we are saved (aren't we?), just that it doesn't always feel like it ...
