You may be right, Smudgie. But, are we ascending the staircase, or are we descending?
I read somewhere a (supposedly humorous) article (a long time ago), which pointed out that in England, medicine is entirely directed towards diagnosis. Every effort is expended to give a name to the patient's condition, at which point the practitioners lose interest. This, of course, isn't England, it's Scotland, but the principle does apply.
