when you really, really want to buy it and the person selling it really, really wants to sell it to you you'd think that would be simple. But instead, you agree a price on the 24th December (survey and searches all completed a month earlier, just had to haggle cos of the amount of work that needed doing) and... still.... no.... house. Turns out the solicitor won't exchange (let alone complete) until she has a hard copy of the revised mortgage offer. The mortgage company only send them second class (and are about 500 miles away, so no popping in to fetch it). I am surreally in harmony with the vendor (who is annoyed with me cos the delay is on my side although i have to say most emphatically... not my fault...) in being very annoyed about all this. It just doesn't make any sense!

Meanwhile, back at the ranches, the washing machine blew up in the house i let/live in sometimes and the central heating isn't working in the house i'm renting. Although both of these are not earth-shattering and have been pretty easily and quickly resolved, they are still Things! Makes you wonder if you want a house after all. But you do, really.

In Good News, I had an excellent christmas and new year, and good lord was i ready to walk away from 2003. It wasn't that it was bad, it was just... different; sometimes in a good way and other times absolutely not. a ridiculous amount of change. I don't often really notice the turn of the years in this sort of way but spent the final week of 2003 singing 'long december' and meaning it, apart from the bits about hollywood, hospitals and the canyons cos, you know, other people's place specifics don't translate so well. It's a counting crows song of considerable excellence, in case you just think i was busking around the words 'long' and 'december' for seven days.

Errr back to the Good News... whichever way you look at it, I am about to buy a house, I have settled in the new town quite all right now thank you, and this week sees the recording of a friend's CD which i'm involved with and loving it. It's a good start to the year all in all, this week; work is going well too. Feels like the early days of good things.

maybe this year will be better than the last.
