you can justify everything from some episode of the simpsons or another

Yesterday afternoon I had a little flutter on portugal winning euro 2004. I don't stand to lose an awful lot, but the winnings would be noticed. I would like to say that I did this after a detailed study of form, etc, but actually what happened is I happened to get them in the sweepstake done by a bunch of friends so I thought, what the heck, in for a quid, in for a few more quid.

Normally I struggle to give a [heck] about football, but last night I got as animated as I would watching, for instance, Wales 'play' rugby.

There is an episode of the Simpsons where it turns out Lisa is extremely gifted at sussing out who is likely to win, and Homer develops 'daddy daughter day' where she basically tells him where to put his money, and is generally right. After his explanation of gambling, Lisa states 'so gambling makes a good thing even better' and Homer asserts that this is indeed the case.

In a limited sense, I have to sort of agree.
