joining in

i'm writing a couple of chapters for a research centre; it's all about community and the ways in which people engage in collective action. Or, er, don't. And policy measures to encourage it, and why it's important socially rather than just politically; what 'joining in' generates and the consequences of a collective failure to do anything at all, really.

If I didn't have a headful of chapters I'd probably be having a muse here about implications for faith communities; hopefully I'll give myself a little time to think about that alongside and in relation to the phd. Main thing I spose is that all the abstract and the engaged stuff points out that individuals who are really committed to action or are driven by values make a lot of difference in initiating positive change. I know that's hideously obvious but it has been of medium inspiration. Sadly I guess the small things show up because the majority are still so disengaged from any desire for a change of anything, or any idea that that may be necessary.
