work, rest and play

i have 21 working days to go before I start the PhD. almost 20.5. there are things about the job I'll miss - how lucky am I to like the work and the people. It's actually the routine that finishes me off.

Sleep patterns are at their worst ever - I blame the amount of stuff I have going on! In the day I don't feel stressed, but I'm simply not sleeping. Last night I was still awake at 4.30, which is not good with 9-5. Not that it would be great without it.

other stuff is good. practices for rachel's greenbelt gig have been great - quite relaxed and i think we're playing all right, actually; it's only a 35-min slot so there's no pressure for full-on everything. Good choice of songs and I think we'll have fun. Stage 2 at 3.40 on sunday in case you haven't been listening on the manifold occasions I have abused to plug it.

Builder has worked out costs properly and it turns out we won't have to have our lovely (but entirely rotton) suspended floor replaced by concrete, as the price of replacing the whole floor worked out kind of as cheap. Great news (unless you're Tom in my office who yesterday in the pub at lunchtime announced he was sick of all the housebuying and renovation talk. I can see how it's really not interesting and you'd have to be there, and be me).

Greenbelt is soon. I really need to do some washing before the end of tonight. I also need to clear my bedroom entirely so the damp proof people can do the woodworm prevention treatment tomorrow.

church stuff is great. i think we are unashamedly making it up but still happy to take some responsibility for the momentum that has been created in the first three years of its life... just about afloat on the principles of commitment to each other and to others, and finding ways to inspire and express faith without imposing or abandoning it. we've had some thoughts about the way all this might look in the coming year, i'm fairly inspired by it all.
