The movie club - thank you lemly for the intro month. I will sign up so you get your freebie month too! I have a rental queue of 32 already, and three movies plopped onto my doormat Tuesday morning. Excellent service. Finding it quite good skipping about various actors and directors - a few on my rental list are ones I've not heard of. Hmmm... is that wise? I'll keep you all posted.

Received the McLaren book and it is, in fact, excellent. I've only skimmed it, like, but it looks great. I feel like recommending it already so here you go: buy it. 'A generous Orthodoxy', see sept 27th below for full title! You can now order it direct in the UK. I would have waited if I'd known, but one was for a birthday present coming up soon and can you be too careful? No. No, you can't. I was proud though of getting something not very available in the UK! Ah well.

Latest odd dream - I was talking to a friend who insisted he was in the 'vernacular society' when he was at university. 'I've never heard of such a thing' I said. 'It mostly involved us all talking very loudly' he replied. Which I thought was odd, cos that's not really what vernacular is all about. Still, there it was.

Work? well, if the glass is half full, I would say isn't it splendid that I'm enjoying what I'm doing; finding the research and writing stuff engaging and not really minding that previous inability to get down to work has resulted in two consecutive very late working nights. I would say that although I'm not really able to get into the details of my PhD quite yet, the work I'm doing right now is very relevant to my PhD research and getting into a pattern of coming in and getting stuff done could be considered a flying start.

If the glass is half empty, I would say that really I should have finished this bit of work by now and if it drags on much longer I'll probably feel like mildly kicking myself.

I am irritatingly chirpy for someone who is woefully underprepared for a progress meeting tomorrow on something they (ie the people in charge) originally wanted finished by the end of July.
