windows and, uh, opportunities

it's like this; decided that the bays look ok. They forgot to make my bathroom window so I have to wait for that (that's OK). The back door is beaded from the outside but they will rectify that by building and installing a new one (there is no need for you to know what that means, unless you are a particularly thorough burglar).

Double glazing. Never thought i'd see the day. hermetically sealed isn't good for houses, not really, and as i said before once they make it it's there for eternity (and not in a good way). At the end of the day we really had to have new windows and it was the cheapest way. What really surprises me is that i really like it; not overkeen on having so much plastic around, but the house is warmer and safer than it was, which is something houses kind of should be (i have a degree in housing. i know these things)(??!!).

Doing a masters in social science research methods is all very well, but the problem is people ask you what you do and you say 'a student' they say 'what in'? 'a masters in social science research methods'... either the glazing over thing happens or the 'what on earth is that' statement is made, and you have to elaborate. I usually say 'it is like a prequel to a PhD'. They nod politely. Every single time I want to explain that I'm getting great funding and it's a fantastic opportunity, it is likely that it'll enable me to travel a bit next summer, I will be able to make time to do the theology i've always fancied thinking about, I am also working in my old job 1.5 days a week putting a conference on (which begs more questions - you can't explain in three words or less that you work for an organisation that supports people with learning disabilities in residential accommodation and that they employed me to research and begin to develop the idea of the tenants having PCs in every house for learning, leisure and communication, and that there are also loads of staff skill benefits, so I found out about all that and now they are employing me to put a conference on about it and after that I'm just going to be doing a masters but that's OK cos the funding is good although i'll probably want to work in the holidays. I usually just say 'project development' and sometimes if they look interested i add 'for a disability organisation').

see? I've lost you all. And I was only answering the question 'so what do you do?'

Yesterday i had a lengthyish (by my standards) MSN conversation with Neil, saw him there a couple of hours later and had completely forgotten we had had that communication earlier. It's a concern. I did once leave without warning in the middle of an MSN session and completely forget to go back to it altogether. That was with Neil as well. Maybe it's neil (you know you're on msn too much when you think 'ooh, i need a smiley just there. That one with the S-shaped mouth. Oh, lord. stop NOW).
