Christmas cave-man

This hermit had a part in a short drama in our Christmas day service. I was a caveman (pretty good type casting really). Are you wondering how a caveman fits in to the Christmas story? Well it was very brief...there was a group of five of us in a cave, unable to sleep and talking about all the things in the world we like, then wondering who or what made everything we love and dreaming of meeting that someone or something face to face so we could give thanks.
The windows of the church were covered with black plastic so it was dark in the cave...after the drama, as the service progressed, the plastic was removed and light entered the world along with the Christ child.
I had a speaking (or grunting and growling) part and as I am notorious for forgetting lines, I had written prompts to my lines on my hand. When we were getting dressed (I wore an old lambs wool car seat cover that I cut a hole in for my head) someone had a box of make-up so I grabbed a black stick and rubbed it all over my face and arms. The effect was good but unfortunately the black make-up had all but oblitereated the lines I'd written on my hand. That coupled with the darkness in the “cave” and the fact that I wasn't allowed to wear my glasses made for a bit of ad-libbing
We are always trying something different in worship. It's a pity most people left so quickly afterwards (off to Christmas dinners and family gatherings) as I'd be interested to know what some of the “once a yearers” thought of it.
