Well, as I forewarned last week... we went to Sydney on Friday to see the Dylan Thomas play “Under Milk Wood” being performed by the 2nd and 3rd year School of Dramatic Arts students at the Wesley Institute of Ministry and the Arts.
The teenage drama queen was in it and I thought the whole thing was fantastic.. my star rating for all the thirty or so cast members (and backstage crew) is
I spose all the Welsh wibloggers will know Dylan Thomas but my technical education was pretty limited in the arts so it was a new experience for me.
The play was set in an imagined Welsh coastal village (Llareggub) and was really a picture of the life and people during “one spring day” in the village. Starting from their dreams at night, with a great puppet sequence, the dawn brought an interplay, using various storytelling forms, narration, physical theatre and singing (with well rehearsed Welsh accents), between the various characters. My imagination was continually challenged by the weird yet wonderful nature of the whole experience.
It was delightful.
During the encore the cast looked toward the heavens and applauded, acknowledging the presence of God in all they did. To see this group of young people enjoying life and God's gifts was a real great finish to a great night.
