Inventory coming up. Scouring stockrooms, unearthing shirts and pants and golf ball washers and whatever else we sell in the Men's Sprtswear / Men's Furnishings area. Making sure every blessed item has a bar code scanable by a lazer gun.
When Inventeory Night comes, we've got to Touch Every Piece. Every one of the eleventy-gabillion items for sale in that blessed store. And we have to do it in at most two nights. Preferably one.
I like Inventory 'cause I get my hourly pay without being held accountable for sales. Always enjoy free hours like that.
And I enjoy the looser, letting-the-hair-down effect on my co-workers. Some of us go change out of our business suits and dresses into sweats. I've gone barefoot. And there's the breakfast out afterward at the all-night diners like Shoney's or Denny's. It's all a nice change from the ho-hum daily routine.
Goodness. Working with a customer and getting him what he needs and suggesting more and having him walk out the door happy, satisfied, with an armload of my merchandise... That's quite an adrenaline/endorphin rush. But not all day every day is like that. Much of it is humdrum.
So Inventory is fun.
