People Are Mad, part 4 billion and 1

Honestly.

I'm fairly sure it's an age thing, but recently I have noticed a lot of people mistaking Groover for a girl. It seems to be people of an older generation, who see it as hair=girl, no hair=boy. No matter how many times you correct them, they keep on. I have a friend whose two year old girl is still pretty much bald. She dresses her in as much girlieness as she can muster, and still little old ladies say 'what a lovely little boy'. She corrects them, but still for the rest of the conversation they refer to M as 'he'.

Similarly, I know Groover has a fine (and quite long) head of hair but really, surely he's obviously a boy. As Big Sister said a while ago, if you put him in a dress, he'd still look boyish - or you'd think 'blimey that girl's a bit of a bruiser'. But no.

Anyway, today beats the lot, as in waitrose an old lady was practically in tears over him, because 'whenever I see a pretty girl like that it makes me think of poor Maddy'.

Good grief.
