Well, since I last wrote at any length, there has been Big Sister's wedding, a trip to London (well, Slough) and a camping holiday in north wales. So I haven't just been playing on facebook, I have actually been Doing Things in the Real World, so there.
Big Sister's wedding was wonderful, and I don't really do weddings. The weather was wet but not utterly torrential, which meant that the afterwards do was at Big Sister's house rather than the beach. This could have meant that the house was ridiculously full but I think there was much coming and going, so although it got a bit cosy at times, it was fine. Also the fact that the vicar announced that the do at the house was from 6-10, when actually it was meant to be straight after the service, helped. We are still not sure where this announcement came from, we suspect that the vicar asked The Groom what time people should go to the house, and The Groom made something up because he wasn't sure. But the upshot was that some people came straight afterwards, and others later.
Big Sister was given away by niece 2, and niece 1 signed the register. (That's daughter 1 and daughter 2 from Big Sister's point of view, obviously).
Everyone I chatted to had enjoyed it immensely. Nearly everyone commented on how the whole thing was very much centred on the vows, and how nice that was in comparison to weddings you go to when it just seems to be
a) an excuse for a huge and stupidly expensive party
and
b) centred around the photos afterwards
So all in all it was a brilliant day; everyone enjoyed themselves and all was marvellous. I had a lovely time chatting to people I hadn't seen for years and Groover enjoyed charming everyone he came into contact with.
I have bever seen so much booze in one place as there was in the house for the party. Big Sister said in the weeks leading up to the wedding she kept looking at the booze stash and thinking 'that'll never be enough' and going to buy more. There was so much! And so much left over! We liberated some of it when we left, including a very nice bottle of rose (how do I put an accent on there?) which I am drinking as I type.
Cheers!
(More on the other things later.)
