The couple who were camping.

That's us.

As I mentioned below, the initial finding-out-about-spina-bifida scan appointment was in the middle of a camping trip with church. We were only an hour away so we came home for the scan.

Afterwards, in the very pink counselling room, talking to the consultant (actually, sitting in stunned silence while he talked to us...), as the chat was coming to an end, he said, in true counselling style... "so what do you think you are going to do now, when you leave here?" (I think he was concerned we were going to go and lose the plot entirely somewhere, as we'd taken it all rather well so far). A pause.

"Well, all our stuff is in a tent in Builth Wells".

Much giggling. We are now known to every department of the hospital we've had contact with, as 'the couple who were camping'. I see one of the midwives in town occasionally - "been camping lately hahaha" is the usual greeting. Whenever I phoned the ob/gyn department during the pregnancy - "hello it's birdie here" - "ah yes, you're the couple who were camping aren't you?".

It's nice to provide harrased NHS workers with some entertainment.
