We had just got back from a long weekend in Wells combined with a hospital appointment in Bristol.

We had stayed in a hotel where getting to our room involved a stone spiral staircase and very narrow passages, which was fun as I was huge. Had a huge ancient four poster bed which was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever encountered, but I wasn't sleeping much anyway. Lovely view over the frosty green to the cathedral.

The hospital appointment was for them to decide when baby b was going to be born and if they wanted to do a c-section. He was due over Christmas and because he would need surgery straight away they needed to know when that would be. Preferably not over the Christmas holiday, was their thinking. They decided they didn't need to do a section (hooray!) but they did want to induce labour (boo!). We were told that they'd 'start things off' on December 20th and to expect him to be born on the 21st or 22nd.

"Ouch, that's two days start to finish" I thought to myself. Then: "blimey that's in less than a month!!".

It all started to seem very real.
