This time last year: New Year's Eve

(Where has this week gone? I'm sure I intended to write about things...)

Anyway. Between Christmas and New Year in hospital was all a bit of a blur, as you might imagine. Christmas was hellish, but we don't talk about that.

New Year's Eve though was lovely. We had an invitation to the home of the conveniently local wiblogger for dinner, and we thought we might just be able to sneak away from the hospital for a couple of hours or so. Three other wibloggers were in attendance*, one of whom (yes you, Neil) had been on the vino for some time before we arrived, and was vastly entertaining for the whole of the evening.

We had a lovely meal, and the other guests were very patient with what was probably mostly baby talk from us. It was so so good just to get out of the hospital for a couple of hours and whenever I think of that evening I remember it as a real godsend in the middle of a pretty hard time. The only problem really was that as I remember it still hurt to laugh!

At midnight we were back in our room on the special baby unit, which was high on a hill overlooking the city. We could see every firework display for miles and it felt like they were all for us.

*There may have been more than three. It's all a bit hazy...
