Do you remember back in March I was chasing the bank to find out when they were going to transfer our current account? I hope you weren't thinking that as I hadn't mentioned it again it had all gone smoothly. oooooooo no no!
There has been much chasing. Paperwork has been lost. New paperwork completed. Phone calls made. More phone calls made in which it was admitted that no record had been kept of the previous phone call and thus no action taken. There was grinding of teeth, and icy politeness.
Over the last couple of weeks, direct debits have been moved from the previous account to the new one. But no actual money. Although I had been assured that this would not happen, I was sceptical, and had transferred some money myself to the new account, so there has been money to pay the direct debits. So that was good.
I went into the current bank, and told them that I wasn't very impressed the direct debits had been transferred without transferring the balance. They seemed to think that was the new bank's problem. I asked when the balance would be transferred into the new bank. I was assured that although they didn't have a date on their computer, I would get a letter a week or so before the transfer happened, so I would know when the old account would be closed.
This morning I went to get cash from the cash machine at the old bank. It wouldn't give me any because the account has been closed and the balance transferred to the new bank.
It is too hot for icy politeness. I was just plain livid, and I let them know it.
We requested this transfer in February. It is now June. I am pretty much speechless.
