Falling into bad habits

It's the quilt of guilt all over again...

I am making myself a change/nappy bag because I don't like the one I've got, or any that I've seen in the shops. However this is turning out to be quite a big project so it's become very stop-start as I do other, smaller things as well.

I'm very pleased with this, although bits of the design need refining. And how do you start blanket stitch neatly? Anyway, this is my bid to prove that french knitting is not an entirely useless craft activity, and I think it makes a very nice flower here. The bag is for a little girl at church, whose mother gave me her knitting dolly. I'd been looking for one for ages, and happened to mention this to a friend at church, who said 'oh E has two - have one, she won't miss it', and later presented me with said knitting dolly, complete with half finished knitting. Now, I don't know this for sure, but if E is anything like I was at age 5, she jolly well will have noticed that her mother has given her knitting dolly away, and you can bet that of the two, the one I now have was her very favourite, and the knitting she was halfway though was a very important project.

Big sister was sitting next to me when it was handed over, and said 'well why didn't you just make one from a cotton reel and pins?'. And until that point the possibility hadn't even occurred to me, although I am sure that's what I would have had when I was little. (Actually, I don't know when I last saw a wooden cotton reel, and you can't really hit nails into the plastic ones, so possibly a 'proper' one is now the only option.)

Anyway, going back to the bad habits thing, I think I work best when I have a big ongoing project, but then also something I can just pick up when I have five minutes, or want something to do but have no concentration*. I have done something on the bag most days this week, I just don't want it to end up being put down for months, like the quilt was.

*So, if anyone needs a length of raspberry coloured french knitting, here's your chance. (Perfect craft actuvity while also watching football.)
