Okay, I admit it, making a quilt top with the sewing machine is a billion trillion times quicker than hand sewing. This took about an afternoon:
I am quite pleased with it, it's nice and cheery and bright, although on reflection I think I prefer patterns like baby b's quilt, which are shades of one colour. The baby this is for is not due to arrive until November, so there's no rush.
I wasn't sure about what colours to use at the edges. These are the options:
or
I think I have settled on the second one but if you have an opinion I'm happy to hear it! I originally intended the plain yellow in those two pictures to be red, but couldn't get the same red as I'd used in the patches.
I was really careful with cutting exactly the right sizes, and using exactly the right seam allowance, when I was making the quilt top, but some of the squares are still a bit wonky.
Other crafty news:
I did start to make a pink and purple giraffe, as requested some time ago, but the fabric I was intending to use turns out to be a total.nightmare. to work with and I've had to put it down and breathe deeply for a bit. I will go back to it at some point.
I am also just embarking on some top secret craft activity which you might get to hear about later in the month. That's all I'm saying. :)
