So, ages ago while randomly watching Sesiwn Fawr on S4C, we saw Seth Lakeman, who was new to us, and were very impressed. Later, I was looking at his website, and noticed that he's playing in a little theatre (which I also didn't know existed) in a town near us on September 1st, this Friday.
Totally failed to do anything about this until today, when I booked tickets. We're taking a bit of a chance on it, as mr b is not sure that he'll be home from work in time to get there, but the guy I spoke to on the phone about it reckoned we might not be able to get tickets on the door as they're selling quite fast. It's our anniversary at the weekend, so we're hoping that he is as good as the brief glimpse we got on the tv suggested he might be, and it can be our anniversery thing. (We're not good at anniversaries or birthdays, and we're always quite glad when something nice we would have done anyway coincides with a birthday or anniversary so we can say that's what we're doing if people say 'what are you doing for your anniversary?'). So like I said, we're taking a bit of a chance on it.
So, later on today, after finally deciding to book this, we were looking at Brian Houston's website, and noticed that he is playing in the very same little theatre, on the 3rd. Supporting The Storys, who are meant to be very good. I really don't know how I failed to notice that when I was looking at the Seth Lakeman information. The Sunday would be better for us as obviously there are no 'getting home from work' time considerations, but I've booked Seth Lakeman now, and doing both would be a bit much. And we did see Brian Houston twice over the weekend I suppose.
This theatre looks like a nice little venue actually, lots of good music. I can see us going there quite a lot in future. I have a dilemma for the 1st December - Steeleye Span playing in our local theatre, or Show of Hands (supported by Martyn Joseph) in this one a couple of towns away. Any opinions? I have not seen either live, although I've seen Maddy Prior singing with the Carnival Band. Don't know much about Show of Hands but I know they're meant to be excellent. Help me make a decision!
