S's baby arrived on Saturday evening, and I popped round today with the quilt. I think I got there about two minutes after they got back from hospital, so I was all set to thrust the package at them and beat a hasty retreat, but they were all for me coming in and having coffee.
I thought at the time that was totally insane, but now I think again I wonder if they were attempting to avoid the 'aaaaaaaaaaaargh he's really our responsibility it really is just us and him' moment which is traditional on bringing a baby home from hospital.
Anyway, I am happy to report that baby J was thrust into my arms and I made all the appropriate coo-ing noises without one shred of broodiness. Phew.
