Once, many years ago, there was a girl. She had grown as tall as she was going to grow and longed to have a life of her own. She lived in a small house on the edge of a village, with her mother, father and two brothers. When her day's work was finished, she would sit outside the house and watch the people on the road into the village, imagining their lives and wishing to be away from that small, crowded house.
One day, as she sat outside the house, she saw a young man on a stallion, riding into the village. He was handsome and dressed in fine clothes, and he was the finest man she had ever seen.
